Movie Analysis Boyz in The Hood

The purpose of this exercise is to recognize and address some of the problems that plague our neighborhoods and formulate strategies to combat them. Therefore, we are analyzing some of these issues and making them relevant to ourselves in order to improve our consciousness and communities.

  1. After watching this clip, what is your perception of Furious?   11. There's a lot of liquor stores in my neighborhood. I think it's so many because they don't want us to be successful so they use drugs to stop us.

  15. Furious is a wise intelligent man and I had a teacher a few years back by the name of Mr.Laymon who reminds me of him. I'm not sure if whatt was said in this video was true but even if it is im not sure how to feel about it. There are no black businesses in my neighborhood..

  17. FB, this is really good stuff. This is a part of the movie many probably didn't pay much attention too. However, you are taking a movie that many would argue that was iconic in the black community and made it an educational tool. This is amazing. You may want to reach out to Dr. Umar Johnson because he is trying to do some things in Detroit with education.

  18. Thanks brother Withers, when I asked my students who saw the movie they all raised their hands. Then I asked if they remembered this scene of the movie, most said they did not remember it. That's why I thought it was important to focus on the lesson / s of the movie, instead of the negative aspects of growing up in the hood.

  19. the people that put these stores on our corners they want us to kill our self because they want you to stand out in front of there stores and sell drugs, they don't tell you to move in front of there store. Many would argue that was iconic in the black community.
